NATIONAL PAIRS 2009

The National Pairs 2009 was held in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah from 27th. to 30th May 2009. KL Bowls send three men teams and one lady team to take part in the championships. There were 48 men teams and 31 ladies teams taking part in this tournament. KL were represented by Fairul Izwan Abd Muin and Fairul Iqwal Abd Mui (KL A), Mohd Amir Mohd Yusof and Amir Faris Amran (KL B), Salahudin Razali and Suhaizat Zulkifly (KL C) and Norhashimah Ismail and Nor Aqilah for the ladies team.

KL A was top of the group in group A in the first round. In the second round they lost narrowly to Selangor 12 - 13. KL B was also top of group C in the first round. They also lost to Sarawak B in the second round going down 8 - 16. KL C was placed fourth in the first round and out to compete in the second round. All the three teams representing KL did not manage to go the last fours. In the ladies pairs KL manage to top of the group K. In the second round game they won against PDRM A by 12 - 11. In quarter final they beat National Development Team B by 14 - 9. They lost in the semifinal against Kedah by 8 - 14 who actually won the championships. Norhashima Ismail and Nor Aqilah won joint third place with Royal Malaysian Police C.

Although KL did not doing well in this outing but one of their players in the National Development Squad won the men title. Mohd Saufi Rosli (KL) partner with Mohamad Haizlee Abd Rais won the championships by beating Azim Azami Mohd Ariffin and Afrizal Azwan Suhaimi of Selangor B by 15 - 11.

World Blind Bowls Championships

Malaysia aim to equal previous achievement at world meet

Kuala Lumpur - The Malaysian lawn bowls team to the World Blind Bowls championships in Melbourne, Australia from April 18 to May 3, aim to equal their previous achievement at the meet. At the 2005 championships held in South Africa, Malaysian athletes won two bronze medals. "This time our preparations are more organised after coming under the Paralympic Unit of the National Sports Council (NSC) since January.

The athletes look more confident and if we can win anything more than the two bronze, it will be a bonus," head coach Ramlay Ibrahim told Bernama at a flag handing ceremony in Wisma MAB. During the ceremony, Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB) President Senator Prof Datuk Dr Ismail Md Salleh handed the Jalur Gemilang to team manager Sumitha Ramasamy.

According to Ramlay, the six athletes in the squad (3 men & 3 women) who trained during weekends, would also undergo two centralised training camps from March 16-24 and April 11-17. The squad that competes in the singles and mixed pairs events, comprise of Mohd Zamrie Hasan and Nor Hayati Sarnoh (Category B1), Mohd Noorhafizan Ahmad Jais and Maznah Arbik (Category B2) and Mohd Zainuri Othman and Sharifahnur Sharfuddin (Category B3).

WORLD BLIND BOWLS CHANPIONSHIPS

Ramlay Ibrahim, the Secretary General and Amitulhai Haji Ismail (Amee) Council Member of Bowls Kuala Lumpur were given the task as Chief Coach and Assistant Coach by the Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB) and National Sports Council of Malaysia (NSC) for the preparation of blind bowlers to the World Blind Bowls Championship in Melbourne, Australia from 21st April to 2nd May 2009.

Ramlay, the pioneer of lawn bowls in Malaysia had proven himself in the last series in Johannesburg, South Africa in 2005 by bringing back 2 bronzes in the B1 category. Ramlay against proved himself in this year championships by bringing back two goals and one silver in B1 category and one bornze in B2 category. He has set a very high standard for the next coach in Limengton Spa, England in 2013.

BOWLS KUALA LUMPUR

Bowls Kuala Lumpur was founded in 1993. During this time lawn bowls was just been promoted in Malaysia in preparation for the 1998 Commonwealth Games. Although it's new to Malaysian at that time but the Malaysian is catching up the game very fast. In 1994 KL Bowls take part in the 5th. Malaysian Games in Ipoh. Although the games is very new but the games had made it first appearance in Malaysian Games with all the 15 states in Malaysia plus the Armed Forces and Police take part in the competition. KL Bowls manage to win one silver and one bronze in this games. In 1996 KL Bowls took part in the 6th Malaysian Games in Kuantan, Pahang. KL Bowls won three golds and two silvers. This is the best achievement for KL Bowls in the Malaysian Games so far.

In 1995 KL Bowls took part in Arafura Games in Darwin, Australia. KL Bowls also took part in the Touch of Class in Perth, Australia in 1996. In 1994 KL Bowls organised the first Malaysian International tournament using the Commonwealth format with one singles, one pairs and one fours. Western Australia, Brunei Darussallam, Thailand and Singapore took part in this tournament. This tournament then called KL International Fours.
